Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin

KI Family Law is a legal document that was developed by Elders, KI Council members and others that will serve as the template to assume jurisdiction of Child Welfare Services, to coalesce social and health programs, and to act as a catalyst for language revitalization of the KI Nation dialect.

Administration Services

KI Administration Services is a centralized hub of financial and operational services, where all KI Nation Programs are administered under the auspices of an Executive Director and a core grouping of lead and auxiliary administrators.

Education Authority

Personnel of KEA have been delivering education services to children since local control of education was assumed by the KI Nation in the late 1980s, where grade school education is now delivered from the pre-school to secondary level, including distance education for young adults.

Minoyawin Services

KMS personnel oversee the delivery and coordination of a full range of health and clinical services to KI members including, the Nursing Station, NNADAP, Community Health Representative, Healthy Babies, Community Well-Being, Sub-Oxone, and Jordan's Principle and Choose Life Programs.

Pe-Tay-Ka-Win Development Corporation (PDC)

The corporation's purpose is to maximize the employment, training, education and economic development opportunities, including creating, developing and managing such economic development opportunities, for all members of KI Nation. PDC is a non-profit corporation and holds several business entities such as Tasona Atawekamik (Store) Inc., KI Telecom Centre Inc. and others. PDC consists of Board of Directors who are locally appointed and management staff who are hired by the Board of Directors.

KI Lands and Environment Unit

In 1996, KI Lands and Environment Unit was created as a band program to promote the preservation and protection of the KI Homelands, including the environment, and the development of economic activity that is sustainable and in accordance with KI land use and occupancy principles. The KI Lands and Environment Unit has been leading the KI Homeland strategic plan in all of its lands, resources and environment developments such as the KI Consultation Protocol, KI Watershed Declaration, KI Treaty Affidavits/Legal Project, KI Indigenous-Side Research/Mapping Project, and KI Collaborative Governance Framework Project. The KI Lands and Environment Unit is supervised by the Chief and Council portfolio holder who provides leadership and direction along with the Director who carries out the directions and decisions of the portfolio holder.

KI Police Service (KIPS)

KI has its own police service which is administered by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

Hydro One Remote Communities Inc.

Operates within the community to provide electricity through use of poles and lines.

Operations & Maintenance / KI Public Works

KI Public Works is responsible for running the Band Garage, performing road maintenance, water and sewage service.

Choose Life

This program funded through Jordan's Principle and remains is primarily focused on service to youth aged 18 and under. Activities include Spring/Fall hunts for families, Mid-Summer camping trips, a Youth Centre which offers programs featuring traditional cooking, music-therapy, and camping. Choose Life also looks after the community Arena, Gym, and has a dedicated team of Mental Health workers that serve in the community as well. Additionally, there is a Safe house which is currently under renovation.
